Matthew has over10 years of experience in Alberta’s electricity industry. At ATCO, Matthew is responsible for strategy development, capacity market design, and other regulatory and policy issues that impact ATCO’s generation portfolio. Through the capacity market development process, Matthew was the Chair of the AESO’s Energy & Ancillary Services Working Group.
Prior to joining ATCO, Matthew was a consultant with the Brattle Group where he worked on a diverse range of projects in Alberta and throughout North America. Matthew started his career at the AESO where he participated in several market design analyses and developed the AESO’s market analytics team.
Matthew has experience in both qualitative and quantitative analysis that support market designs and policy matters. He has worked on a diverse range of projects across the industry including: retail market policy, emissions policy, reviews of market design changes, determining the capacity value of intermittent resources, long term capacity expansion modelling, integration of wind generation, energy storage development options, and transmission development policies. Along with Alberta, Matthew has experience with projects in ERCOT, and the northeastern states.
