Tory has 20 years of experience in the electricity industry and is currently the capacity market lead at URICA Energy Management. With an extensive background in wholesale and retail markets, energy marketing and commodity trading, he has wide-ranging experience in position management, risk management and generation portfolio optimization in the Alberta and neighboring electricity markets. Tory has worked with energy companies to create innovative processes and solutions for their most complex challenges in portfolio management, hedging, load forecasting and business operations.
Representing the REA Working Group, Tory has been an active participant in the AESO’s development of the capacity market design process over the last two years. He participated in initial the Straw Alberta Market (SAM) Working Groups and was also a member of the Design, Energy and Ancillary Services and Demand Curve Working Groups that provided advice to the AESO on the development of the Comprehensive Market Design (CMD) for Alberta’s capacity market. Additionally he is a member of the Tariff Design and Advisory group tasked with helping the AESO guide the examination of considerations and alternatives for designing the ISO tariff to allocate capacity and bulk and regional transmission system costs.
His diverse background allows him to provide a holistic view of the upcoming capacity market, including evaluation and identification of opportunities and threats to achieve an ideal blend of asset optimization, position utilization and risk management.
