The Rev Dr Catherine MacLean, Senior Minister

CatherineThe Rev. Dr. Catherine MacLean leads worship at St. Paul’s most Sundays. She has been with us since 2003 and before that served churches in Canmore, Yellowknife, and northern New Brunswick. Catherine received her Doctor of Ministry in Preaching through McCormick Seminary in Chicago in May, 2009. She also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard, and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie. Catherine is one of the authors of A Song of Faith, the newest statement of faith of the United Church. Catherine is an avid reader and writer and deeply enjoys connecting the stories of our lives and our faith.

Denise Davis Taylor, Minister of Faith Formation

2014-07-30 11 19 43Denise has been active in Diaconal ministry in congregations since 1981. She has focused her ministry in education. Over the years, she has worked with children, youth, and adults. Presently, she spends all of her time with youth and young adults at St. Paul’s, supporting them in their spiritual journeys of faith. Denise is also the United Church Chaplain on the University of Alberta Campus (Faith Lift).

Rondy Kyle, Children’s Programs Co-ordinator

Rondy KyleRondy has a degree in Recreation Administration, completed the Leadership Development Module at the Centre for Christian Studies’ diaconal programme and has 20 years experience in all aspects of child, youth and young adult ministry. She has done crisis intervention work with high risk youth, and has  worked with musician Linnea Good as her booking agent.  In her time at St. Paul’s, Rondy will be exploring and learning along with the children.

Susan Farrell, Director of Music

Susan FarrellNova Scotian native Susan Farrell (B.Mus. Mount Allison University, M.Mus. University of Alberta Choral Conducting) has been making waves in Alberta the last several years as a rising choral conductor.  Susan conducts the Brail Tones and Semitones choirs, which serve adults and children with special needs in Edmonton.  She also leads the Edmonton Girls’ Choir and co-conducts the Edmonton Children’s Choir, assistant conducts Òran (the young adult choir in the Kokopelli Choirs family), and can be found leading music at St. Paul’s United Church on the weekends, too! Susan’s sense of fun encourages her singers to create community and her enthusiasm for singing guides them in finding their own unique voices.

Tyson Kerr, Musician

Tyson KerrTyson is a stylistically diverse composer, arranger, pianist, organist, singer, and accordionist. As an honors graduate from the Grant MacEwan University Jazz Program, the University of Toronto Music Program, the Banff Centre for the Arts Creative Music Program, and the recipient of several scholarships recognizing his writing and performing talent, Tyson continues to contribute in many ways to the Canadian music community. In addition to collaborating with several notable musicians and groups, including Christine Duncan, Brou-lala, The Last Birdman, Keith Hartshore-Walton, Alex Samaras, Jay Vasquez and Jaron Freeman-Fox, Tyson has led and composed for his own jazz quintet and folk quartet (Myrtle’s Turtle) for the past 3 years. Currently, Tyson is most active in the choral and jazz community in Edmonton, accompanying, singing, and writing for Oran, Brailtones, Archbishop Jordan  Jazz Choir, T.I.M.E., Epsilon, and others. Tyson also teaches private piano, accordion, trumpet, vocal, and theory lessons, and has taught at National Music Camp in Orillia, Ontario for the past 3 years. As an organist, Tyson has played intermittently for several churches, including St. Mark’s and Calvary Anglican Church in Toronto and Church of the Holy City (Swedenborgian) in Edmonton, and St. Paul’s United Church.

Anna Benowicz, Office Administrator

Before joining St. Paul’s United Church as Office Administrator in September 2017, Anna worked at James Bay United Church in Victoria and United on Whyte in Edmonton.  She and her family lived in Vancouver and Victoria for twenty years before moving to Edmonton in 2013. Anna is a native of Poland and has an MA degree in English Studies from the University of Warsaw. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, riding her bike and cross country skiing. As the most recent addition to the staff, Anna is looking forward to getting to know the St. Paul’s Church Family and working to support their mission and vision through administrative tasks. You will find Anna in the Church Office weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm.
