CRHF Funded | Jaundice Meters

November 8, 2024

This tool provides a transcutaneous bilirubin reading, offering a comparable result to traditional lab blood tests. Its non-invasive nature is particularly beneficial in reducing stress and discomfort for infants, who previously would have had to undergo a blood test via a heel poke to assess their bilirubin levels.

Before the adoption of this technology, the standard practice involved drawing blood from neonates to determine bilirubin levels. This process, while effective, was not without its drawbacks. It could cause discomfort and stress for the newborns and required more resources in terms of personnel and time.

With the introduction of the Draeger jaundice meter, healthcare providers can now quickly and accurately obtain results with minimal invasiveness, making it a valuable tool in neonatal care.

“Before jaundice meters, the best practice to get a result would be a blood draw, so like a heel poke on a baby – which isn’t always the easiest to do, so this technology improves patient care even for our smallest patients!”
